What should you know about the Siamese cat?

Extremely dignified, elegant, noble. The Siamese cat attracts attention with its appearance and energetic disposition. It is very eager to play, but at the same time requires a lot of attention. One could conclude from this that it would be perfect as a pet for the whole family. However, this image is wrong. The Siamese cat is very good friends with one member of the family and tolerates the rest of the family generously. As for contact with children, it is advisable to teach them in advance how to deal with such a pet, because the Siamese cat is not just a kitten that loves petting. It is a quadruped that only allows it to a select few, while it expects due respect from the rest.

Siamese are oriental cats, well known to mankind for hundreds of years. Their ancestors were probably Nubian, Bengal and other domestic Asian cats. They are a breed with an extremely charismatic character and unique colouring. Their history is very interesting as it is linked to royal courts and temples. In the latter, the Siamese cat played the role of a guard, warning the monks with its loud meowing that a stranger was coming. As an inhabitant of the royal court, it was held in high esteem, respected and lived in relative peace and unimaginable luxury. And, being a long-lived breed, he had plenty of time to enjoy such a life.

Siamese, or unusual oriental cats
Already at first glance, one’s attention is drawn to the unique appearance of Siamese cats, so different from our “rooftop cats” or, for example, Persians. Unusual are their eyes with a blue colour, almond shape and penetrating gaze. Their trunk and limbs are elongated and their movements graceful. Similarly long is the tail, which tapers towards the tip. Siamese cats have large and pointed ears. They are characterised by their point type colouring, which means that they have a dark mask on their face, typical of the breed. The cat’s paws and tail are also darker than the rest of the body.

Siamese Oriental cats have a shapely and proportionate body structure. This is also the case with their head, which is of medium size and set on a slender neck. The jaws and chin are strong and the coat is devoid of undercoat. It is worth knowing that the Siamese cat is one of the short-haired breeds and grooming its coat is relatively easy. However, there is also the long-haired Siamese cat, which was bred in the United States as a result of a gene mutation.

What character does the Siamese cat have?
What distinguishes Siamese cats is not only their appearance, but also their character. They are true volcanoes of energy. They are extremely active and love to play, of course with whichever family member they choose as a guardian. And because they are extremely intelligent and demanding, playing with them must be varied. It is advisable to choose a variety of cat toys that will provide them with an attraction and stimulate the animals appropriately.

The Siamese cat is definitely not for people who spend little time at home. Because it is very attached to its owner and does not tolerate loneliness well, if left to its own devices it may seek entertainment on its own by messing about and destroying household objects. It is also capable of loud behaviour, which is characteristic of the breed. Loud and insistent meowing, with which it often tries to remind of its presence in order to force something on the owner, may disturb the household. A well cared for Siamese cat will repay you with loyalty, devotion and love. It shows great attachment to its guardian, towards whom it can be possessive. As it is a territorial animal, it can mark territory until it is neutered.

What should you know about the care of the Siamese cat?
The grooming of Siamese cats is not very complicated. It is important to remember to comb the coat regularly and to trim the claws. It is necessary to comb out dead hair with a thick comb and remove dust and dirt from the cat’s coat with a soft brush or cloth. It is also important to clean the ears regularly and check the condition of the cat’s eyes. For the health of the Siamese, regular visits to the vet should be remembered.

How about the health of Siamese cats?
Like many purebred pets, Oriental cats are prone to contracting certain illnesses and inheriting genetic diseases. They are particularly burdened by eye diseases. Among others, they suffer from nystagmus, strabismus and progressive retinal degeneration. It is worth knowing that all kittens of this breed suffer from strabismus when they are young. In many of them the condition disappears with age, in some, it remains. Other conditions to which these kittens are particularly prone are polycystic kidney disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arthritis and mucopolysaccharidosis type IV. Some Siamese cats also suffer from dwarfism and curvature of the tail, which, apart from the aesthetic aspect, is not dangerous for the pet.

It’s time to eat something, that is, the diet of an oriental cat
A proper diet is very important in the care of Siamese cats, especially as they are gluttons who tend to become obese. A good quality wet cat food, adapted to their age, weight and activity level, will be best. This means that it should be selected individually. If the cat’s guardian is not able to choose it themselves, they can enlist the help of a cat nutritionist or veterinarian. It is very important to keep your pet in good shape, which means controlling the quantity and abundance of meals. And since cats are carnivores, the food should have a high content of good quality meat.

How much do Siamese cats cost?
People interested in this breed would certainly like to know how much such a purr costs. The price of a Siamese cat with a pedigree ranges from 1500 to 2000 PLN. It is worth remembering that in this amount you are acquiring a pet of noble origin. We advise against buying Siamese from an uncertain source, as this can lead to acquiring an animal that is sick and bred in inappropriate conditions.

Siamese cats are undoubtedly a unique breed that is not difficult to love. They captivate not only with their interesting appearance but also with their attachment to their owner and charismatic character. They are also infectious with energy, of which they have endless reserves. However, this is not a typical purr for everyone. In addition to its many advantages, it also has disadvantages. It is a very engaging kitten, if only because of its great desire to play together with its owner. However, he is able to repay beautifully for the care shown. It senses the mood of its owner, and shares sorrows and happiness with him.
